Works on Canvas

My work has evolved over time, from working primarily on paper, in watercolour and then in pastel, to painting in oil.  Over the years, I have moved from representational work to more simplified, almost abstract pieces.

While I’ve worked at simplifying my paintings, they have been mostly influenced by landscape.  I’ve always been interested in exploring colour and space, suggesting both tension and harmony that exist in nature.

My exploration in sculpture has varied from abstract shapes created from imagination to working from the model.  Here again, shapes from my environment – the human body, landscapes, and cityscapes – have influenced even the most abstract pieces.  Most sculptures have been done in a workshop environment.

Major influences on my art include Paul Cézanne, Wolf Kahn, Nicolas de Staël, Milton Avery, and Giorgio Morandi.

I work from a studio in the Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto.  Please send me a note if you wish to see some of my works.

"Art is an adventure into an unknown world, which can be explored only by those willing to take risks."
(Mark Rothko, 1903-1970)
